Birmingham Sea Life Centre

We had a day to kill in Birmingham with my old friend Jon and his family so after some consideration we decided upon a visit to the Sealife Centre. Jon had got some vouchers and so it cost £12 each. A short walk from the Mailbox, along the canal brought us to the place and we joined a queue of children, it being half term.

Without doubt the best thing in the centre were the penguins. They seemed really curious, not at all afraid of the children and adults who had their faces pushed up against the glass. They almost seemed to be showing off.

I was disappointed not to see any otters but there were plenty of children to watch – actually they were pretty well behaved and I noticed a lack of people taking selfies and nobody seemed to be getting their kids to pose in front of every tank.

It was a refreshing change not to be hundered on my journey around the centre by hordes of selfie taking families.

Generally people don’t se their phones as much here as in China – that’s one of the most obiovus differences I have noticed since coming back.
