Bucketing down in Nanjing

By | September 11, 2013

The end of the summer is nigh – the heavens are opening and dispensing their contents onto the people of Nanjing. It was not a good day for a gentle stroll for lunch today.

Mark decided we should walk instead of taking the bus but as soon as we were a few hundred yards up the road it started raining heavily. In fact it was so heavy I insisted we shelter in a building site until it stopped. We found an open office and nobody around so sat there for a while.

It didn’t look like it was going to abate so after 10 minutes we braved it and ran up the pavement on Zhujiang Lu looking for a little restaurant.

By the time we had finished our cabbage and chicken with peanuts the rain was still coming down in sheets but by this time I was so wet that I was past caring. My trousers were wet up to the knee and as I was wading through pavement lakes I was very grateful to have worn my sports sandals for my trip into town.

And it’s set to continue for a few days yet. I shall have to find some indoor jobs to do.

I have been given some proofreading to do and so that will keep me occupied for the next day.
