Calligraphy for starters

By | January 15, 2018

Sometimes I get a burning desire to do something artistic and recently I have discovered calligraphy. I went to Fuzhou Lu where I bought a mass of paper and brushes and ink and water colours for almost no money. The trouble is I don’t really know how to do it and have had no lessons. Anyway I thought I’d have a go ad I have found it a lovely way to relax and I have used the output to decorate my house and the stairs to my house – not sure what the neighbours think.

I also decided that it would be a nice idea to get friends round and for them to do some which I could hang up. That was why I handed my Dutch friends a paint brush after they had finished eating the slow roast beef I can cooked for dinner. In fact they really enjoyed it even though they had also never done it before.

I have been looking at getting lessons but sadly they are always while I am working and the other option is to go down to the park and see the man who does calligraphy on the ground with water and a massive brush.

Perhaps he will take pity on a poor lauwai and teach her the basics. I think I would like to be good at calligraphy, Watch this space!
