Candles for practical reasons not romance

By | January 4, 2016
When I moved into this flat there were candles on every surface. Candle holders of all shapes and sizes held a vast array of cheap Ikea candles.

I initially assumed that they had been bought by a romantic previous tenant. It wasn’t until the first winter came that I realised that they were more practical than romantic.

I had power cuts on
almost a daily basis before I realised that they were caused by my
having lots of appliances on and since that time I have been careful in
the winter, especially at 6am to have no more than one appliance on at a
time.

It seems when the weather is warmer the problem disappears.

Still,
even given the power usage caution I have been taken I had a 11am power
cut on Saturday. It was soon fixed and I made a mental note to never
have my hairdryer on when anything else is on as it appears to be the
common denominator.

But the situation got a whole lot worse when I got home on Monday and
found the whole place in darkness – again. And I hadn’t been here all
day so the electrical capacity of my flat seems to have hit an all-time
low.

At least I have had plenty of use out of the candles the previous tenant had stockpiled just for such an event.
