I found the worst cafe in Shanghai at 1933, the old abbatoir. It’s a beautiful Art Deco building popular with photographers but these days it’s full of shops and cafes and much of the old charm and photographic beauty of the place has been degraded.
I took a couple of German friends there and we stumbled upon an intersting concept – a dog cafe. I’m guessing they took inspiration fro the cat cafes which came over here from Korea or Japan. Anyway we thought we’d take a look inside.
However, when we opened the door the stench of dog shit and dog food and general doggy odours, was so strong we walked straight out. I honestly canno understand how anyone could spend any time in there let alone relax and drink coffee with that dreadful smell. Maybe dog owners don’t notice it after a while but even the waiter had to admit it smelled bad.
I say to him, Get Another Job!
