Maurice came to stay for a few days in Nanjing. I couldn’t put him up as I have no spare rooom so a colleague of mine, Mr Jiang did the honours. Maurice left for Shanghai this morning and tried to check into the hotel I had booked for him only to realise he had withdrawn his daily allowance of money and now had none to pay for the hotel. The hotel did not take credit cards. So he rings me “Sian can you help. I am in Shanghai and I have no money and no credit card and no hotel to stay in”.
I spent 4 hours today changing a small amount of money (tried three different banks) and then queueing for hours in the post office to send it Western Union only to find out you cannot do it domestically. I had to ring him to give him the bad news. He is now at the train station sleeping on the floor!
