G is for the Gee Gees

I was walking back to my flat in Hong Kong and the route took me past the racecourse in Happy Valley. There was a lot of noise coming from within and so I asked the attendent on the gate and she said there were races on tonight.

Wow, now I can tick off another item on my bucket list I have never been to the races and what better way to start my habit than at the Jocky Club at Hong Kong.

It was only £1 to get in which was a nice surprise and the bets started at £1 too which is completely affordable. The first time I put a bet on (race 4) I got confused with the exchange rate and thought I’d put on £10 hen in fact I’d put on £1.

Luckily the horse didn’t finish anywhere near the front so I didn’t lose much.

The next race, I was determined to back a winner and the method I chose to employ was to choose horses which were about 10:1 not the favourite and not an outsider. And this time it pad off when my horse came stomping in ahead of all the others, at 14:1.

I took my winnings and thinking I was on a winning streak backed two losers in the next two races and then went home with my tail between my legs but having only lost about £5. And £5 is not a bad price to pay for an enjoyable night out at the Hong Kong races.
