‘Gravity Strapping’

By | September 11, 2017

Who needs expensive stapping to hold down industrial sized rolls of steel cable when gravity will do the trick? I suppose this was the thinking behind the packing decisions of this Chinese company. Perhaps the load was only going a short distance and they didn’t deem it necessary.

Luckily my taxi driver was keeping his distance from the car in front which was in turn keeping his distance from the lorry in front of him. It could all have ended very differently had my driver not been paying attention and done an emergency stop. So often, the taxi drivers here are speaking on their phones or sending text messages. Thank God today mine was doing neither.

So I live to breathe another polluted, dangerous day in Shanghai and ‘gravity strapping’ has yet again shown to be an inefficient way to hold down heavy loads on flat-bed trucks going around corners at speed.
