Helmets optional

It’s little wonder there are so many accidents in Nanjing. The traffic is crazy and the bicycle lanes are often the most dangerous places. As you can see here, a car has tried unsuccessfully to cross a bicycle lane mowing down someone of their e.bike. I’m not quite sure where the rider went but there was no blood!

Very few people wear helmets in bikes and so getting broad-sided by even the smallest vehicle can result in massive injuries.

And I wonder why Nanjingers tend not to tidy up after their accidents – they always leave the vehicles across the road, even when it blocks the traffic completely.

They don’t care that nobody can get to work and take no notice of any of the horns being blasted at them.
