Surely Guangzhou Lu has to be the most disgusting, dirty, obstacle strewn, periless street in Nanjing. For a very long time there was building work at the Children’s Hospital there and when it was finished I hoped that the result would be fewer puddles of children’s piss to watch out for on the pavement. Between the yellow lakes, there are numerous ebikes, bicycles, cars and street furniture making it almost impossible to walk down the street.
Outside the hospital are kids with all manner of bandaging being carried on the backs or in the arms of parents and huge bundles of blankets in which you have to assume is a small child. Traffic is often at a standstill, parents fight over taxis and cars dropping off people block the road.
And why or why oh why does a child of this age need carrying (and where are her shoes?). Why does she need split pants – oh yes, in case she gets caught short and has to squat on the pavement outside the hospital.
Come on guys, the toilets are just across the road – or up on Qingdao Lu – not far away. Make that small extra journey and give us all a clean pavement.
Thanks.
