- Get rid of that haul of spare change you have in pots around the house. I have so much coinage that I gave one massive pot to my ayi as a gift. Well, not really a gift – I didn’t know what to do with it, and it’s hardly worth taking to the bank. Then I found another pot which had been left behind by a previous tenant. Now I’m just going to leave it for the next tenant.
- Buy a few keepsakes. I have written about my jade treasure, but I have also bought a print of a traditional painting of three fish. It was only £35 so not a big investment. I cut it down a bit and now it’s small and light enough not to trouble my suitcase too much.
- Get Mobike deposit back. I left it too long to get the deposit returned from Ofo and now they’ve gone bust but I remember giving Mobike £35 so I’m looking to get that back.

Things not to do before leaving China
- Close your bank accounts. You never know when you might be needing them and my Wechat wallet is still attached. The chances are that even when I’m gone, there will be drips of incoming dosh and outgoings, so I’ll keep all four of them going. In any case, it costs nothing and it’s easier than closing them.
- Get rid of the VPN. I have become quite attached to my VPN and it allows me to watch a wider variety of Netflix programmes than would ordinarily be available to me. Also I need it to download torrents and that’s going to be importat in my next port of call on the Dark Continent.

- Have a big leaving party. I hate them and will avoid at all costs. I will see the people I actually like (the A listers) and say goodbye to them. The B listers will get a text message and am amusing gif which I will make specially.
