Now I am between contracts I have to find somewhere to sit which is not a cafe. It’s OK in China to sit in a cafe for hours. They have fast internet and don’t mind if you don’t buy anything. In Tanzania they are generally outdoor cafes so are a bit bright and sunny and those indoor ones have air-con turned up too high so you get cold.
They also don’t always have WiFi and those which do, have such weak WiFi that you have to keep using your phone’s hotspot to get online. Hence working in a cafe is not as easy here. I asked around and one of my friends said he had moved into new office space that there was room for me.
This is ideal. It’s within cycling distance from home and I go past Subway en route so I can stop and pick up some lunch. My office mate are also self-employed. One is a computer expert and another is a loss adjuster. They are very welcoming.
It is nice to work around others even if it’s not on the same project. It’s not quite as nice as the shared office I used in Shanghai but it’s hard to compare anything in Tanzania to anything in China as it doesn’t fare well in the comparison. However it does have everything including a small kitchen and maid who brings around fruit. it has coffee and tea and a fridge for my drinks. It even has air-conditioning which is a real luxury.
Now all I need is a contract so I can pay for it!
