I have a new student for the Christmas holidays. She is 12 and studying in Bournemouth. The message I got was that she needed help with her English. This is boring but easy, so I said Yes and charged a lot.
When she turned up I realised she was at Millfield School with me last summer. In fact she stars on my marketing DVD which I have just finished.
Anyway, as I said, she turned up for what I thought was English tutoring. I had all my relevant book and exercises ready and then her mother said :She needs help with her physics homework”. OMG! Physics. I can barely remember anything about phyiscs from school. But she is paying me a lot so I have a go. Google is my best friend when it comes to physics and we sat together and googled most of the answers. I struggled a lot with a couple of the questions (I didn’t really understand them) so I phoned my physics teacher friend Hari, and read the question over the phone to him.
Bless Hari for his help.
Yesterday I was planning on spending a couple of hours working out the answers to the rest of her homework. However, my Saturday morning student (who needs A level Economic and A level Geography help!) is brilliant at physics. So…. I explained my problem and he offered to sit here and do some of it and take the rest home to do it for me.
Bless Frank for his help.
So now Kelly is about to show up and I at least have some answers. I would be happier if these students stuck with subjects I know a little about. At 12 she already knows more about electrical circuits, frictional forces and electromagnets than I do.
