Food safety is something that raises its ugly head in my life about once a year when I get food poisoning. Mostly it’s over and done with in about 5 hours but last time I couldn’t walk for a whole day.
Therefore it’s always nice to see the food safety signs from Shanghai Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) when I go to a restaurant. The owners are obliged to display them even those (and maybe particularly those) with a sad face.
I have never seen a frowning sign – most restaurants I go to seem to have a pass – a neutral face. What a great idea these signs are and one way perhaps that we can reduce the amount of time I spend with head down a toilet. It’s never a pleasant experience but always feels worse when you are sick and not in your home country.
I do wonder though why, if a restaurant has a fail notice, they would be allowed to continue to serve food. Perhaps the SFDA could change the sad face to the one shown here. That would give the diners a much more accurate description of what they’ll be doing a few hours after eating there.
