I was not only fed up of being in Kampala without any work, but I figured if I had to give up finding work in East Africa then I should at least make a short detour to Tanzania before I leave. So I got a cheap flight to Kilimanjaro Airport and then headed up to Arusha from there.

At Entebbe I met a Korean girl who was on my flight and she turned out to be a travelling artist. She had already spent four months visiting places like Egypt, Kenya and now Tanzania, painting murals for people in exchange for money or services. What a great idea.

On arrival in Kilimanjaro I persuaded her to draw the security man as we waited for her driver to appear (I had decided to hitch a lift with her!). I had booked Hotel Flamingo which turned out to be reasonably good for a budget hotel. I don’t mind the noise from mosques. In a way I find it quite comforting.

I had one full day there so decided to do something cheap so instead of joining an arranged trip, I got a minibus taxi to Tengeru and then walked about a mile to Lake Duluti. It was quite a nice place, quiet and unpopulated.
There seemed very little else to do in Arusha save try to find a cafe with wifi and a nice coffee. Considering this is a coffee producing country, you would think there would be more cafes around.

By the time I had checked out of Hotel Flamingo I was ready to leave and see Moshi, a place which promised a more relaxed feel. I squashed myself into another overcrowded minibus and prepared myself for another couple of hours of discomfort. Oh to have shorter legs that fit in this vehicles!
