There’s a man who lives on Anfu Lu, by The Center. When I walk past and it’s warm, he’s outside, sitting on the wall eating. When it’s colder, or late at night, he gets back into his tent/cave and you can hear him listening to music. He seems to be collecting lots more stuff – the pile is growing. This week he seems to have got some sort of metal frame propping up once end of his residence.
Anfu Lu is one of the most expensive streets in Shanghai to live and is full of foreigners hanging out at the pavement cafes, picking up real bread, getting their hair cut and looking through the fake DVD’s in BIG MOVIE.
Maybe living in a pile of junk is the only way anyone who isn’t on a big fat corporate salary can live on Anfu Lu. It is a wonder the authorities haven’t moved him on. I hope they don’t. He’s not doing anybody any harm so let’s hope there are no strong arm tactics from the police when a visiting dignitary is due in the area.
