2 bikes and 2 phones

It’s about average I understand – 2 bike thefts and 2 mobile phone thefts in 4 years. I am pretty careful especially on buses as I already caught a pick-pocket on the number 65 however, I let me guard down on Saturday and paid the price for it.

I was working at 1:30pm so I stopped at Costa Coffee for a drink and a sit down and a play with my new mobile phone – an iPhone 4. I had had to replace the second hand one I bought 4 weeks earlier as it had broken.  (Yeah I know – second hand mobile phone not a good investment). My friend, Stephen, had told me about a good deal at China Telecom where you can get a new iPhone for £170 so I went down there and picked one up. The catch is that, althought there’s no contract, you have to have the number which is permanently attached to that phone. So I bought one and emailed everyone with my new phone number.

Anyway, after my trip to Costa Coffee, I got the number 2 bus for 2 stops to the university. On walking up to the building I noticed that a bike that I had left there a week ago had gone. I was a little hacked off but it was very cheap (£15) and I had half expected it to have been stolen.

I then walked up to the third floor and reached into my bag for my new mobile phone to give to the girls in the office only to find that it had also been stolen.

Damn – that was a bit more financially painful. I then went to the secret place where I had hidden my jar of Nescafe only to find that had also gone. What a disasterous day.

Sunday after work I rushed back to China Telecom and bought another iPhone for another £170 much to the amusement of the staff. Then I had to email everyone again and tell them about the latest new phone number.
I used the ‘delete all content’ on the Cloud so that when my stolen one was next online all my data would disappear. I reckoned there was no way that ‘find my iphone’ would work in NJ as it’s denselt populated, you would never find it, But the thieves will not be able to use the phone anyway because it is locked to a specific phone number.
