Being rearranged by an old lady

By | June 14, 2014

I was sitting on the number 13 on the way back from the shops and I was careful as always, to make sure nobody was stealing anything off me. The bus stopped and I lept up (lucky enough to get a seat today) and headed for the door.

I felt a tugging at the back of my shirt and my hand went automatically to my mobile phone – it was still there. I looked around to see who had pulled my shirt and I saw an old lady who had been sitting behind me smiling at me, pointing to my shirt and saying something I didn’t understand.

I wondered whether I had dropped something and looked on the floor… but nothing. Then I realised why she had pulled my clothes – my shirt had ridden up slightly and a small amount of skin was showing above my waistband.

This is the second time a stranger on the bus has rearranged my clothes – last time an old lady pulled my collar down – clearly annoyed by me looking so dishevelled. On that occassion I deliberately pulled it back up again.

Do they do this sort of thing in Shanghai?
