Being a tourist in Shanghai

How often do you get to be a tourist in the city where you live? Wednesday was a lovely evening so a few of us paid 120RMB each for a 50 minute trip up and down the Huangpu river. we were the only foreigners on what I shall loosely call a cruise ship. In fact it was little more than a glorified ferry with a huge advertising hoarding on the side for face cream.

There is little to do while on the boat but to look at the view but what a view. To one side the beautiful Bund with its subdued lights and historic hotels and banks and on the other side, the modern magnificence which is the finance district in Pudong. They are like two different worlds, one a glimpse of the old and one of the new.

A trip down the Huangpu is definitely worth doing but if you can understand Chinese, you can get the ticket for half price by pre-booking online. I wish I had known that!
