Doggy Fashion

The silly season is here again when owners dress their dogs up in their winter outfits; boots, coats, leggings, hat, gloves and scarf and parade them on the streets to their admiring public. Then the obligatory dying of the poodles ears amd tails will begin. Actually I saw one today on Guangzhou Lu. A poodle had been dyed light brown with dark brown ears and tail. It wasn’t quite as impressive as the bright orange and pink bobbles on ears and tail but head-turning none-the-less.

I am guessing that people dress up their dogs like children because either they have no children or perhaps because they are allowed only one and they have fled the nest. Who knows why they do it but they do it and it’s crazy, not to mention cruel to dogs. I mean, don’t dogs have integral fur coats and waterproof trotters? And the legging – God knows what they are for. It is still above 20 degrees here and I certainly haven’t needed a coat yet. Although of course the indigenous people of Nanjing have been wearing thermal vests and long-johns since the temperature dipped below 30 degrees!

I’m afraid the winter madness is yet to get worse.

Watch this space.
