I don’t mind dogs. In fact I quite like the ones who don’t snarl at me. I went to see a dogs home in Dar where people can take their unwanted pets or those they’ve found abandoned on the city streets.
Personally I think there are too many dogs around the place especially dogs kept only as guard dogs and never walked or properly cared for.
I walked around a bit looking for the place and then realised that it was probably where all the fly activity was coming from. There are. about 150 dogs and 190 cats at Every Living Thing. They do commendable work in keeping the creatures alive and giving them love.

They have a small band of volunteers who help socialise the dogs and when I was there, the whole place was full of energetic creatures jumping up at me. Mind you, there was one in a cradle and some chilling out under a tree, but most of them were very active.
I could not work in a place with so many abandoned pets and flies but I have admiration for anyone who can. They keep all the dogs alive and don’t put any down for lack of space. They try to rehouse dogs but the demand is not as great as the supply and so numbers don’t reduce.

If you’re in Dar and missing your dog, you can pop along and help them do the beach walks twice a day. It’s a well-known and established charity in the city. Go and pay a visit if you have time and love being licked by hundreds of dogs!
