K is for knowing everything

I have recently got interested in artificial intelligence. I have been making AI art for a few months and have posted many of the pictures on my walls to bring some colour into the house. AI art is incredible when you get it right but it takes some time and a lot of mistakes before you can be sure of an acceptable result coming out the back of the engine.

Over the last two weeks there has been an explosion of social media content around a new Open.ai facility called chatgpt. I tried it and it’s right – it is very powerful and a very useful tool for content creation.

I thought I would try it on recipes and gave it the contents of my cupboard and fridge. It came up with a really tasty recipe for roasted pumpkin/butternut squash soup so I thought I would try it.

Firstly I got the recipe from chatgpt and it read as follows;

To make roasted pumpkin soup, you will need:

  • 1 small pumpkin, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sour cream or yogurt, for serving (optional)

Here’s how to make the soup:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the pumpkin cubes on a baking sheet and toss with the olive oil, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper. Roast for 20-25 minutes, or until the pumpkin is tender and starting to caramelize.
  3. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a little bit of oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the roasted pumpkin to the pot and pour in the broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until it is smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can transfer the soup to a blender and blend it in batches.
  6. Season the soup with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the soup hot, garnished with a dollop of sour cream or yogurt, if desired. Enjoy!

Then I went to nightcafe.studio to create an image of the soup and got this result (after a few tries)

Then I made the soup – I follow the instructions and roasted the veg in the oven and added the flavourings and something which was akin to cream (and a bit of coconut cream that needed using up) and it came out quite similar to the picture and was indeed was tasty.

AI scares a lot of people – they think it will take over the world but I am excited by it and can see many uses for it in every day life.

From improving blog posts, to writing social media content, to writing and checking essays, to writing sermons, making recipes and writing code in any language.

I discovered this week that it was extremely good at summarising long passages of text that I didn’t have the motivation to read – it was excellent and gave it all to me in a paragraph.

AI knows everything and that can only be a good thing to help us live, work and play.
