Little India for breakfast and lunch

By | July 21, 2013

Arrived 2.5hrs late in Singapore last night after a delay caused by air traffic in Shanghai. God knows what they have to do with Nanjing but that’s what the captain told us. I rushed for the taxis and got one straight away to Emma’s house. Luckily she was still up and welcoming.

This morning I decided that Little India was the place to go for breakfast and I had something akin to a poppadom with potato and spices. It was good and cheap. Little India is great – just like being in India I suppose.

After my breakfast I got the 980 bus to Golden Mile Complex where I was spoiled for choice for buses to The Cameron Highlands. Eventually I got one with 5 Star travel who charged me about 22 pounds for the 7 hour overnight trip.

Ticket in hand I could relax until 10pm and decided to check out Arab Street which I had seen from the bus. It was great – a big mosque and lots and lots of street-side stalls selling all manner of Arabic and Persian food.

I firstly headed for the book shop to buy a map of Malaysia and then back to Little India for my lunch. See pic (left). It was a bit like fish and chips – served on a piece of waxed paper. I was the only one eating with a spoon and fork. All the Indians were using their hands.

I have decided to keep Arab Street for my dinner just before I get on the bus. The weather is very sunny and warm (we are in the tropics after all) and it is cooler than Nanjing which is great.I found a cheap internet cafe where I can benefit from the air-con.

I have bought a copy of the Sunday Times (Singapore not British) and am going to try to find a cool cafe to sit in for  quiet hour to read it.

Then it a 10pm bus to The Cameron Highlands. I am not looking forward to the journey – the bus seat doesn’t even go down – only reclines a bit. I hope I get some sleep.
