Melbourne Cup 2013

By | November 5, 2013

Suzy had organised a Melbourne Cup fundraising thing for Hopeful Hearts and so we all, Ozzies and non-Ozzies got our glad rags on and headed to Belinis in town. A lot of laughing, shouting,  screaming and ticket waving and then the race. It was all over in 5 minutes which was a bit of an anti-climax. It’s not like the Grand National where you are almost bound to see some fallers, some loose horses, some fatalities. No, here a small group of horses ran round a flat track. I can’t see what all the fuss was about.

My horses 5 and 23 were in 2nd and 3rd place for the whole race until the end when they lost energy and dropped back to mid-field. Shame no prize for me. Isobel and Max and a few others decided to try to rig the vote so that Max got best dress and I got best hat but it didn’t work and we won neither.

The food was ok though – Italian, pizza, lasagne and salad buffet. When the noise level reached ear-splitting level Isobel and I had to run away for a bit of peace and quiet in Skyways (if anywhere in Nanjing is truly quiet).
