Nightmare on Guang Hua Lu

I am often home alone and this was the case on Tuesday evening. Jenny was stopping over at the boyfriend’s house, Boss was still at work and Yi Feng was still in her shop. I was reading quietly in my room and at around 8:30pm I decided to go the fridge to get a drink. I entered the sitting room, switched on the light was stopped dead in my tracks, paralysed in fear by what I saw all over the floor. As I looked around the flat, the floor was moving with large creatures with big claws, long antennae and huge bulging eyes. For a moment I considered the possibility that I was dreaming but discounting that I still couldn’t believe that what I was seeing was real. How could the whole place be alive with these disgusting man-eating crustaceans. Luckily I had my phone in my pocket and I leapt onto the sofa and made an emergency call to Jenny. “Jenny come home. There are creatures all over the house, in your room, in the sitting room, in the kitchen, in the bathroom – everywhere there are creatures everywhere and they are very frightening” “Don’t’ worry, I will call my mum”

A long ten minutes passed and I watched these creatures disappearing under the sofa, trying to climb up to the TV, waiting at the front door and making a scratching noise as their talons slid on the wooden floor. Yi Feng arrived a long ten minutes later and I have never been so pleased to see her. Laughing, she went round the house and picked up the creatures in a “no nonsense” sort of way. I indicated that many of them had “run” under the sofa so she got a broom and poked about under the sofa. She returned them all to the plastic bag from which they must have escaped and put them back on the balcony. She promised me that they had all been recaptured. So I started to relax although I still hadn’t risked putting my feet back on the ground.

“They have all gone, I promised, all gone” She said “You promise?” “Yes, they have all gone” No sooner had she left the room, a huge pair of claws followed by a reddish brown beetle-like body about 6 inches long emerged slowly from under the sofa. I screamed. “Yi Feng, there’s another one” She picked it up and laughed. “All gone now, all gone” she said.
