Pineapple Season

By | April 9, 2012

Pineapples are back on the streets, sold always, from the back of a truck or a cart at road junctions and busy bus stops. The sellers always skin them and get rid of the black bits before wrapping each in a plastic bag ready to eat. They look great and it’s a shame that I can’t stand pineapple as I’m sure I would be living off them.

Yesterday they were selling 3 small ones for 50p. What a bargain.

The other fruits currently being sold on the streets are strawberries. They are generally sold from baskets carried on either end of a piece of bamboo made into a yoke and carried across the shoulder of the sellers who come from the countryside for the day. They are not so cheap and if you’re unlucky they are rotten by the next day so best to buy and eat straight away.

Some elongated blackberry type fruits have also now appeared. I don’t know what they are though. I haven’t been brave enough to try them.
