On the way up to the waterfall we stopped for breath at a lovely garden near a school. There was a dirty white sign which caught my attention and then I could see that the garden was part of Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots scheme.
I had come across i8t many years ago in the UK but was surprised to find it here in Morogoro. But it makes complete sense. Roots and Shoots is an environment organisation which tries to get children involved in conservation of the environment.
In this garden they are growing saplings and shrubs to replant. Healthy strong plants grow in neat rows in organised beds. We met the man who is the caretaker of the garden who was very welcoming and on the way back down the mountain we stopped at his house for a rest and a chat.
