Somerset peace and quiet

Seeking some solitude from my hyperactive house mates I decided to go for a walk along the road and see what was around the village. Dipping up a back lane the hedges were bursting with summer flowers, rabbits were out in force nibbling on the grass in the warm glow of the setting sun casting long shadows.

Big bales sitting in fields, kids playing on bikes calling me “hedge monkey” as I stopped to take pictures of hedge life, cyclists in high-viz jackets and the smell of cow dung in milking the parlour constitute the rural Somerset scene. At the entrance to one field I spotted barbed wire wrapped around the top of a five bar gate. It captured my imagination. Sometimes beauty can be found in the most normal things.

Popping into what we call in Walton House “The other pub” I saw only two other customers. Feeling reluctant to stay i such a quiet pub, I took note of the menu and the “two meals for 9.95” offer and headed back to the house.

As I reached the house four of my house mates were heading to pub. Would I go? No thanks. After a quiet stroll along the Somerset lanes in the warm evening sun, the last thing I want to do is talk about lesson plans and other staff members.
