We tried a new venue for the testing this weekend. The campus was 40 mins out of the centre of the city and was very pretty with lakes and lots of gardens. 13 of us bundled into the lift to go to the 5th floor but it made jerking movements and wouldn’t go up so we came to the conclusion that it was overloaded. We opened the doors and 3 people got out.
Then we tried again but after a few attempts it became clear that the lift was stuck. We had to press the alarm button. Luckily was of us was a native Chinese speaker. They told us it would be 20 minutes before the engineer came and we all groaned. There were students upstairs waiting to be tested and 10 examiners were stuck in the lift.
Luckily we were all good humoured and only had to wait 10 minutes before someone could be heard forcing the door open from the outside. We managed to jump down the 3 feet out of the lift onto the ground. For some reason they insisted we took the lift again (the other lift) instead of walking up the stairs. But only 4 went in each time…. just incase.
