West Bund in the sun

What a beautiful day it ws on Sunday. I had been sittig at my desk until 2:30pm and then, when I had completed the audio edited which I had been putting off, I headed out on the metro to West Bund. It seemed everyone else was there too, enjoying the first sunny day of spring.

I have never seen the place so busy especially around the area of the crane, along the new Huangpu Riverside Walk. The city government has done well to make a great walk and cycle and jogging path for miles along the river.

But the aim of my day was to see the new TANK museum. I had read about it on the internet and wanted to see it for myself. I found it easily enough but there was no obvious way to get in. I tried to buy a ticket but they said it was free but when I went with m wristband to get in, they said I needed to pay for a ticket.

So in the end I gave up and merely walked around the outside and peeked in. I then decided to walk as far as the Powerstation of Art and have a coffee there but by the time I got there, I had done 16,000 steps (according to Wechat) and I was knackered.

I walked through some small gardens which were full of tulips, and people posing for photographs in the branches of plum blossom trees. The climbing wall was full of young children clambering up the face with no ropes or safety equipment. That’s what I like about China – no messing about with health and safety – no Nanny State here!

My second idea was to go to the YUZ Gallery but it was still showing the Rain Room which I had already been to and which I didn’t want to pay to go in again (even though it was good). I looked at a few other galleries and museums along this path too but everywhere was super busy and so in the end I looked around for a Mobike, hopped on it and cycled towards home.
