It’s crab season here in Nanjing and every shop has crabs on display, crawling around slowly in buckets or tied with elastic bands to stop them clawing their way to freedom.
It makes sense to sell crabs to people who are heading home on the metro and looking for something easy to get for their tea. Mind you I was surprised to see crabs for sale in vending machine – dead I think – for 50 yuan each (£5). What will it be next? Puppies?
Nope – they are alive in the vending machine! But it is cold in there and that slows them down – they don't squirm so much!
Oh God – poor buggers!
