I thought it was a new find, but apparently it has been there for 8 years. It has just got recognition as a museum from the city government. Shanghai’s Propaganda Posters Museum should not be missed.
It is in the basement of a residential block at in the French Concession. It’s small but offers a fascinating glimpse of China through posters. All posters are original and quite rare as most were destroyed on the orders of Deng Xiao Ping.
At the end there is a small shop selling original posters, ration books etc. and copies of the most interesting posters.
Hi there Sian. Graham here. Remind me how you have managed to get around the Chinese blocking of blogs. Hope all goes well. I went to bradford today with a guy whose son is in Nanjing teaching English culture at one of the universities. I can get his contact details for you if you want.
Great, thanks Graham. As for getting around the great firewall of China, you have to buy a VPN.
