Our lovely students have been giving us presents today for the national Teachers’ Day in China. There has been some lighthearted competition in the staff room to see who’s high on the popularity scale.
Brett was the first to show off his flower and put it with his frankly ridiculous Japanese cartoon creature on his desk. (The kids love it)
Then I got a lovely hand made card. As other teachers came back to the staff room bearing all manner of gifts my total at lunchtime was still one card. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and buy my own flowers. So I paid 5rmb for two carnations and stuck them onto my desk screen so that everyone else in the staffroom could see them and I pretended that students had given them to me.
Is this cheating? It’s what I used to do when I was young around Valentine’s Day – send myself a few cards so that my sister didn’t think I had no admirers.
You would think that at my advanced age I would have got over this habit.
Think again – there is still a young girl inside!
Very honest content, and I think that the personal touch really aids the interest factor.
The pictures suppliment the story and give the impression that our community is a warm and vibrant family.
I've always found the timing of teacher's day a little strange. Our new students are all charming little cherubs and have started the new school year with enthusiasm, but I don't feel we've had enough time with them to do anything particularly worthy of gratitude. Perhaps we should campaign to move teacher's day closer to the end of the school year.
Brett, one good thing of having teacher's day on 9/10 is that when your students have graduated or transferred from your school but still come back and bring some nice gift on that day – what a surprise!
Naturally I don't mind celebrating twice a year though, maybe another 'educator's day' in May would fit perfectly!
Happy teacher's day for yesterday,we are late!
