The pet I never met

Many people hate mice although I am not sure why. They are not very different from hamsters and guinea pigs and gerbils. I have a pet mouse which lives near my desk in the teachers’ room. At first I tried to catch it in the trap by putting one of Adam’s wedding chocolates as bait but after several weeks it was clear it had not got a sweet tooth. The trap remained primed and the mouse came and went each weekend and was not tempted by the food offering.

The following weekend I decided that, because it seemed to be making journeys into the office to collect nesting material, I would put some tissues in there. So I ripped some up and hung it in the trap hook and then Mike gave me a little dish he had fashioned out of a paper cup and we put some water in it. The main reason for the water was that I was sure I wold catch the mouse over the weekend and because it was a holiday on Monday I didn’t want it to get dehydrated hence the water supply.

I shouldn’t have worried because when I got to work on Tuesday there was no sign that they mouse had reemerged and the tissue and water remained untouched.

I would love to see the little mouse but my capturing skills are lacking and the next plan is to write a program to get the Raspberry Pi computer to film it using a motion sensor and a camera. But that will have to wait until I have worked out the technicalities of programming with Python which requires more time and energy than I currently have to spare.

This could be an interesting side project you could blog from the perspective of the mouse, maybe call it "the wall have mouse-ears" or something? Could be fun, a more whimsical approach to blogging.
